1. Go to business.google.com and search for your business name.

If it exists, you’ll see options to claim it. If it doesn’t, you’ll create one fresh. Either path leads to the same next steps.

2. Verify ownership.

Google will mail a postcard with a code to your physical address, or in some categories let you verify by phone or video. Postcard usually arrives in 5–14 days. Don’t skip this — unverified profiles are invisible.

3. Enter the business basics exactly as they appear elsewhere.

Name, address, phone, hours. The address has to match your website footer, your Yelp page, and your business filing exactly. Consistency is what Google uses to confirm you’re real.

4. Pick the most specific category Google offers.

Not "restaurant" — "Italian restaurant" or "pizza takeout." Not "hair salon" — "hair coloring salon" or "men’s barbershop." Specificity is how Google decides which searches you show up for.

5. Add real photos of the storefront, interior, products, and one of the owner.

Five to ten photos minimum. Use real photos taken on a phone, not stock photos. Google rewards profiles with regular photo additions.

6. Write the description in plain language with one neighborhood mention.

200–500 characters. Say what the business does and what neighborhood it’s in. "A family-run pharmacy on Avenue A since 1998. Same-day prescription pickup, real human pharmacists." That’s the format.
